This is the best skid plate available. This is worth noting, when you consider that most aftermarket skid plates are simply an aluminum or inferior UHMW plastic copy of the stock plastic part.

To start, this skid plate is made larger to cover parts of the frame that are left exposed with the stock skid plate (and aftermarket copies). This added coverage makes the this skid plate the only full-coverage skid plate available for the Polaris Mid-Size Ranger.

Next, formed edges were added on the front and rear of  this skid plate. These formed edges increase strength and reduce trail damage. These formed edges also improve the off-road capabilities of the Polaris Mid-Size Ranger by helping you slide over trail obstacles (like the front of a snow ski instead of a shovel). This design also stops rocks and large sticks from getting wedged between the frame and the skid plate, which can cause severe damage to both.

For anyone who rides in extremely rough terrain, or if you are blazing your own trails, this skid plate is for you. Aircraft aluminum construction does not flex like plastic, including thicker UHMW plastic used by some aftermarket companies, thereby eliminating frame and driveline damage caused when plastic skid plates bend under load allowing the trail obstacle to hit the very parts you hope to protect.
